"School Libraries:  A Place for Everyone"

Join your CSLA colleagues online for a stimulating day, beginning with a Keynote by children's author Charlotte Watson Sherman.  Get new ideas and tips from multiple presenters in three breakout sessions -- the descriptions are below.

The workshop also includes two panel discussions, a chance to connect with vendors virtually, information for classified and certificated staff, and a Bookshop.  Once again, there will be an Opportunity Drawing for “Deb for a Day”.  Deborah Ford-Salyer has graciously offered her services to the winner.

Often storytimes exclude children with autism and other learning disabilities and now with distance learning, sensory storytime has become even more challenging. Knowing the right strategies help ease the anxiety of our students, the librarian, and staff. Understanding what autism is and being flexible can make all the difference in a successful sensory storytime in-person and virtually. Sensory storytimes strategies are for all ages with a focus on preschool to 5th grades. You will learn how to engage students through pictures books, music, movement, and play in person and virtually.

The Pandemic Librarian:  Cultivating Connection & Curiosity through Virtual Programming

In this strange time, many of us feel isolated—educators and learners alike. Virtual programming can offer one option for connection, and believe it or not, some learners are willing to spend time on Zoom voluntarily for topics they are interested in. Some types of virtual programming also support our colleagues’ curriculum while sparking the kids’ curiosity. Let’s connect!

Description of a 3-year process that allowed me to deeply analyze my collection to identify gaps... not only do I need more mystery books,  but what do my book collections tell my students, including the stories and the people who are not represented with a focus on racial and social justice.
