Celebrating Women’s History Month

Did you know?…

Madam C. J. Walker was one of the first Black female millionaires in the United States.

Bessie Coleman attended aviator school in France because American flight schools wouldn’t accept people of color or women.

Belva Lockwood ran for President of the United States in 1884, becoming the first woman on the ballot.

Mary Golda Ross designed classified airplanes and spacecraft as Lockheed Aircraft Corporation's first female engineer.

In 1909, Clara Lemlich, fed up with the mistreatment of her fellow laborers, led the largest walkout of women workers the country had seen. She was 23 years old.

Celebrate and learn about women all year round!

The Septima Clark Book Award honors books that depict women’s issues globally.
